Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving by Ann McGovern. This book goes through the journey of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. The book explains how the Pilgrims settled and what life was like for them at this time. The book concludes with The First Thanksgiving and how that came to be. I appreciate the many details in this book while still being child-friendly.
Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. This book is about a boy that wants the shoes that all the other kids seem to have. However, his grandmother tells him that they cannot afford these shoes. She explains that they can only afford needs and the shoes are a want. This book distinguishes between wants and needs in a child relevant scenario.
Truffle's Christmas by Anna Curry. This story is about a little mouse debating what to ask Santa for as his Christmas present. Truffle is stuck between what he wants and what he needs. These items are good representations of wants and needs for various individuals and how one may need to choose between a want or need.
